Attendance Hotline
To report an absence, please call the 24-Hour Attendance Hotline (847-740-5320).
Transportation Changes
If your child is taking a different mode of transportation home (pick-up instead of bus, grandma instead of mom) you will need to let the office know before 2:00. You can also send a note with your child in the morning. The note needs to include your child’s first and last name, the teacher’s name, and include who will be picking your child up.
Snack/Birthday Treats
We will be eating snack every day. Please send something healthy that your child can open and clean up on their own. Please remind your child what is their “snack” and what is their cold lunch so they are not confused.
Big Hollow has an “edible-treat free” birthday policy. Goodie bags filled with items such as pencils, erasers, stickers, balls etc. have always been popular! You can also send a wrapped book or game that we can add to our classroom for your child to open in front of the class!
Take Home Folders/Planners
Your child’s Take Home Folder and Planner serves as an important link between home and school. It is your child’s responsibility to bring the folder and planner home and back to school the next day. Many different things will come home in this folder including homework, important notes from the office and myself, projects that are ready to go home, and any notes discussing your child’s behavior that day. Please take the time to review the contents of the folder with your child each night. For the first few weeks I will remind them to check their folders. After that, it will be there responsibility to remember to do so in the morning. Giving your child a reminder when you send them off helps tremendously!
Homework
A monthly reading log will be accompanied with a “book bag”. This bag will contain books at your child’s reading level; however, feel free to use books you have at home. This is your child’s time to shine or show off their reading ability! If your child is struggling, give them time to work through the word before telling them the answer. Please initial the reading log each night and return the next day. Reading at home is the easiest way to facilitate your child’s reading growth!
*I will collect the charts at the end of each month. Students missing no more than 5 spaces will get to hop their frog up our “frog pond”. Students at the top of the pond at the end of the year get a special lunch with me! Happy reading! ☺
Optional “READ-O” bingo boards will also come home each month. These can be returned at the end of the month and your child will be able to pick out of the prize box.
Occasional math games will be sent home that we have played and practiced in class. These are also optional and do not need to be returned to school.
